JUSTICE AND PEACE

One of the district police stations that embraces rebel returnees is the Paquibato District (located at Barangay Malabog). The Station Commander sought assistance from the institution (through the Community Development Service) to provide psycho-social interventions. Thus, with the support of the City Social Welfare and Development Office, the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council, and the Davao City Eagles Club, the Community Development Service conducted a series of Team building and Dis-identification Exercises and Sessions on Expressive Therapy.

ECOLOGICAL INTEGRITY

The Environmental Protection and Preservation Program of the institution is now focused on responding to the 7th Commitment for Global Compact on Education (GCE) which is “to safeguard our common home”, part of its Laudato Si' initiative (1st and 7th Goals – “Response to the Cry of the Earth” and “Community Engagement and Participatory Action”). The Tree Planting and Stewardship is implemented in a roughly 6.1-hectare area at Datu Ladayon, Cotabato.
The area is planted with FOUR THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED FIFTY-EIGHT (4,458) seedlings (with this breakdown: Molave – 436, Mahogany – 2,551, Nato – 730, Baguio Pines – 99, Norfolk Pines – 101 and Bayog – 541) by Three Hundred Eight (308) planters coming from the institution and partners (228 from UIC and 80 from partners).

UIC KADUYOG SAGOP KINABUHI PROGRAM

In close coordination with the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council, the UIC Kaduyog Sagop Kinabuhi Program implements a Community-Based Rehabilitation and Aftercare Program (CBRAP) to help Persons with Substance Use Disorder (PSUDs) recover from their present condition and be re-integrated with their families and respective communities. The following are the components of CBRAP: Physiological, Psychological, Social, Spiritual, and Capacity Building/Livelihood Opportunities.

GENDER EQAULITY

Community Development Service facilitates activities and projects for women's associations in the adopted Barangays. These activities range from physical to environmental, social, and cultural in close coordination with some internal partners and the Local Government Units (LGUs) where these associations belong. During the period covered, it was able to conduct capacity-building activities on “Decorating Pastries”, “Table Skirting” and “Flower Arrangement” in partnership with UIC Tech – Voc Office. The said capacity-building activities were participated by the Infinity Women’s Association (of Zonta Village, Purok 5-A, Barangay Tibungco, Davao City) and Women’s Association (of Madapo Village, Barangay 8-A, Davao City).

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

To ensure that the voice of the youth is heard and considered, the Community Development Service sits as a member of the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children in the adopted barangays. It sees to it that the basic rights of children as embodied in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child shall be provided, protected, and enjoyed, to wit: Right to Survival, Right to Protection, Right to Participation and Right to Development.
